Gobles MS/HS News

The quiz bowl team will soon be ringing in the 2022 season as we start this year’s SAC competition. Carrie Butler, Gobles coach and SAC Quiz Bowl league coordinator, is happy to announce that the Gobles team is ready to do their best! "We have some returning players and some fresh faces." Making up the Gobles team are Dulce Ramos-Martinez, Alyssa Martin, Jakub Hermansky, Aurelya Razak, Chloe Kneller, Troy Gordon, Gabrialle Bell, and Elena Phillips.  Others are considering joining, see Mrs. Butler if you are interested!

Due to Covid related issues there are fewer schools participating this year so the season will be shorter than usual with only 8 teams in the league. There are 2 types of meets during the season.  The first type of meet is Tournament style. Tournaments are held at the Lawrence Conference Center to start and close the season. Tournaments are more of a team-oriented activity while, the 2nd type, buzzer meets, call for more individual participation. Both types of games are fast-paced and fun to watch. Quiz Bowl teams can be made up of 4 or more players, but only 4 students can play at any one time. In buzzer meets students ring-in "Jeopardy style" to answer toss-up question worth 10 points each. If the student gets it correct, the team is then given a chance at a bonus question worth an additional 10 points. Toss-ups need to be answered by the individual teammate, but whole teams can confer on bonus questions. Of course, if the person who rang in cannot answer the toss-up question, the opposing team gets a chance to steal and try to get the 10 points and the attempt at a bonus question. Meets last 15 minutes. Community members and classmates are encouraged to attend the meets which are held at various SAC schools. A schedule is available on the website or by calling Carrie Butler at 628-9366 or emailing her at carrie.butler@gobles.org.
