4th grade students smile as they use play doh and popsicle sticks to do math problems in class

In 4th grade, students were exploring equivalent fractions by splitting up Playdoh into different size pieces.  The use of manipulatives such as Playdoh are a great way to help students "see" the math they are doing in a different way.  It also increases student engagement and creates a learning environment where student learn in a variety of ways.  The smiles on their faces says it all!  With the right tools, even difficult math concepts can be fun!
