CHRISTINE ROUSSEAU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

About Christine

Chris Rousseau is an alumnus of the Gobles graduating Class of 1980.  Chris and her family were long time Gobles residents.  After graduating from Gobles High School, Chris attended Western Michigan University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education while completing her student teaching here at Gobles High School.  After working in the field of education as a teacher at Mendon High School and as Technology Facilitator at Otsego High School, owner and operator of Mom ‘n’ John’s in Plainwell, Chris made her way back to Gobles Public Schools working as an Administrative Assistant within the District Office. Regardless of where life took her, Chris’s compassion for others, human and animals alike, was one quality that never waivered. Chris was quick to notice those in need - a student in the hallway having a bad day, an injured animal requiring rehabilitation, or someone experiencing hardships in life, deprived of hope and encouragement. Chris gravitated to the underdogs and committed herself to helping others, always! She was a true champion for those who may not be the best in areas traditionally recognized by the mainstream but beat to their own drum and find success writing their unique life stories. Chris’s happy place was spending time with family and friends and reading. After a difficult day, going for a walk in the woods, listening to music, and getting lost in a book were her favorite ways to decompress. Chris's passion for reading was the center of all other interests and hobbies. She maintained a collection of cooking magazines, educated herself on self sustainability and holistic solutions, and never missed an opportunity to experience a new adventure.
