Gobles Middle/High School News

National Honor Society advisor, Carrie Butler, is proud to announce the roster of officers that will be serving the organization this year. Voted in as President, Mina Buchkowski, in the Vice-President’s position, Gavin Hancox. Christian Witt will be serving as secretary, Samantha Carlson as treasurer, and Kaylee Germain as historian.

The Gobles High School National Honor Society will organize several large scale community events this school year. Three Red Cross Blood Drives top that list and are to be held on Friday, October 28th , Monday, January 23rd , and Tuesday, March 21st . Members do the advertising, bring in the cookies, and provide the labor to make the days successful. Every donation brings scholarship money to a graduating senior so please consider giving if you can. Last year, a $250.00 scholarship went to Emily Baxter who served as president.

The group will also be doing the money and canned good/clothing collection to help fill the local pantry shelves during the holiday season. Hundreds of cans will be donated and we hope to top our record of $1,650 dollars!

Other events include providing support at various school events, sending cards to the Troops in holiday care packages arranged by the Blue Star Moms, helping with the Big/Little program and with Santa’s Workshop. NHS joins forces with the American Heart Association and runs a Red-Out event each February. They raise money and organize a campaign on heart health awareness.

National Honor Society membership is based on not only scholarship, but also on leadership, character, and service. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00, should act as leaders in and out of the classroom, should be aware of character choices they make, and are encouraged to get involved in any projects that benefit the community. Eligibility to apply is announced in the spring. Please see the NHS page at the Gobles.org home page for more information.
