MS/HS News

NHS Advisor, Carrie Butler, is pleased to announce the students who are eligible to apply for membership in the Gobles chapter of the National Honor Society.  NHS is a service-based honor society; it focuses not only on Scholarship, but also on Character, Leadership, and Service.  It strives to recognize the well-rounded student; one with great grades, school involvement, and a willingness to step up to meet community needs.

In order to be inducted, eligible students (3.00 cumulative GPA or higher) will now prepare applications which will be reviewed by the entire faculty and then by the Faculty Council who make the final decisions on membership.  While success in academics made students eligible, scoring highly in the areas of character, leadership, and service is also required.

While it is, indeed, an honor to be a member, it is also a responsibility.  Eligible students are advised that members are expected to participate in several community projects. Among the good work that NHS members have participated in are Red Cross Blood Drives, American Heart Association awareness programs,  the Blue Star Moms Christmas Cards Campaign for the Troops, the elementary holiday store, the holiday food drive, and helping at the Senior Citizen’s event.   Mrs. Butler commented, “We try to stay busy with some good deed most of the school year. One goal is that students who participate at the HS level in events such as a blood drive will, in their future, step-up to organize projects or help when they recognize a need in their own communities.”
