Michaela was selected based on her play in an SAC match against Watervliet High School. During the match she recorded twenty-three kills, nineteen digs, six blocks and three aces to help Gobles claim the victory.
DeKilder is a three-sport standout in Gobles, earning All-State honors in basketball and track & field, and also excels in the classroom. She carries a 3.9 cumulative grade-point average.
DeKilder said she was "shocked, but honored" to learn she was named 'Athlete of the Week' in the two counties because the honor should be shared with her teammates.
"To be successful in volleyball, it takes the whole team," she said. "I can't do anything by myself. Volleyball takes teammates and coaches backing you up, and I'm lucky to have that. It makes all the difference."
DeKilder is one of four seniors on the Gobles varsity team, with Brooklyn Wiseley, Sabrina Klaassenn, and Laura Rall helping DeKilder and the rest of the Tigers get off to an undefeated start in SAC league competitions.
Other finalists for the award this week were Sarah Washegesic of South Haven Volleyball, and Charles Goole of Lawton Cross Country.
