Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Gobles Middle/High School
Dear Parents, Community Members, Guardians and Students:
My name is Tommie D. Saylor Jr., and not only am I thrilled to be your Middle/High School Principal, I am also a 1983 graduate of Gobles Public Schools! After graduating from Gobles, I attended Western Michigan University for 2 ½ years, focusing my studies in the field of Science. After 2 ½ years at WMU, and looking for some excitement in my life, I joined the United State Army, U.S. Cavalry. As such, I spent the next 5 years in the Army serving primarily in what was West Germany, leaving the Army with an Honorable Discharge in 1991 at the rank of Sergeant, and having earned 9 medals for distinguished service. Following my service in the Army, I returned to Western Michigan University to continue my education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1994 as a certified teacher in the field of science. Also in 1994 I secured my very first job in the field of education as the High School chemistry teacher at Portland Public Schools, in Portland Michigan, located on I-96 about 20 miles west of Lansing. While teaching at Portland, I continued with my education, and earned a Masters Degree in Secondary Administration in the year 2000. By 2002 I secured my first position as a K-12 Principal at Ashley Community Schools, a small school located between Lansing and Mt. Pleasant. In 2011 I accepted a position in suburban Detroit, working as a High School Principal in the Taylor School District, Taylor Michigan. Taylor is one of the largest suburban Detroit communities, located in what is known as the Downriver area, or the southwest side of Detroit. Finally, in 2018 I had the good fortune to be able to apply and receive a position in my hometown, the very community from which I grew up and graduated from so many years earlier, Gobles Public Schools.
As such, I cannot begin to express my joy and delight for not only having the opportunity to educate the students of Gobles and surrounding area, but also for being afforded the opportunity to return home. I am humbled by my homecoming, and look forward to serving the community that gave me so much during my formative years.
Sincerely,
Tommie D. Saylor Jr., M.Ed.
