Project Rome
World History

Directions: For this project, you will be given a great amount of freedom to research a subject of your choice. You will be given several days to work on the project, but you will have to do some research on your own. You will be graded for your work done in class. You will also be required to turn in your work at the end of a research hour, which will count towards your day’s grade. You will be required to have at least one book source, and must cite the sources that you are using for your project. Remember that with this project, you will be creating something and to allow enough time for completion. All projects and partnerships must be approved by the instructor.

Project Options: These are some options, if you have another, please suggest it.
  1. Research a particular building, sculpture, or painting from the Roman period and recreate it for the class.
  2. Research and write a report on a Roman Emperor of Choice. You may also give a presentation/speech on a person and their impact on the Roman Empire.
  3. Research a famous general and their battle strategies. Recreate a battle using diagrams.
  4. Research the Roman legion and what it took to be a legionnaire. Create a pamphlet, poster, or presentation recruiting people to join the Roman legion.
  5. Research the origins of Christianity and record its spread on a map throughout the empire.
  6. Research the division of the empire and the differences between the two halves. What made them different, or why is one side better than the other? With a partner, you can compete with one another in attracting people to your side.
  7. Research and compare the cities of Rome and Constantinople. How does the city reflect its side of the empire? What happens to each city in the future? What affect does religion have on the buildings in the city?
  8. Compare and contrast Greek and Roman mythology. What are some of the similarities and differences? Do the Romans create any of their own myths?
  9. Research Roman law and describe in detail your rights as a citizen. Write out the transcript of a law case. Research the types of punishment given for different crimes and create a presentation/report on what you could or couldn’t do as a Roman citizen.
