As is true in all school years, we have much to celebrate and much to remember with great fondness. The athletic seasons have come and gone, or are about to wind up. I am very proud of the effort of every one of our athletes and equally proud of the leadership our coaching staff has brought to our teams, fields and community. They wear the orange and blue with honor.
Many of our extra-curricular activities (clubs, dances, prom, dinners, plays, fund raisers, community help activities) have also represented the heart of our school with equal pride and compassion. I am no longer surprised when an individual student or group of students get together to share their talents or their need to serve those that need help in our community or school. These activities are fun, but often have an added benefit and life-long lessons attached to them.
Our students have weathered the storm of standardized tests with grace and superior effort. In this, we have had our ups and downs. I promise you that we will take long, serious looks at the results of all testing, and together will come up with a plan to help our students improve their achievement scores. My staff and our district leadership are dedicated to making sure that every one of our students will have as many choices as they need when going out into the world of work and greater responsibility.
Every day, in the middle school, high school, I am impressed with the work of all staff and students. I get to see and hear the enthusiasm and energy of lessons being delivered. I get to see and hear the confidence of student participation in classes. I hear and see the “normal” discussions. I also hear and see the challenging minds of the students of Gobles offering their new ideas and thoughts as they become stronger, more independent thinkers.
It has been my honor to be the principal of the building, the staff and the students of Gobles Middle and High school. I look forward to the successful end of this school year. I look forward with great anticipation to the plans and new ideas that will get 2010-2011 off to a great start. Thanks you very much for letting us educate your students. We will continue to work very hard to make this year, and the years to come, representative of the true spirit of Gobles.
