Dear parents & guardians of eighth grade students:

Eighth grade is a significant milestone in students’ academic careers. Readiness for life after high school begins now. A 2009 study of American students showed that kids’ school success in the eight grade is a better predictor of future readiness for college and career than anything that happens in high school!1

Gobles Middle School prepares student for life beyond high school by having high expectations for all, encouraging hard work, and offering college and career preparation activities.

Students learn about career options associated with their interests and abilities, prepare for the MME/ACT college entrance assessment, and tour Van Buren Technology Center to learn what programs are available that might support their future career interests.

In the coming months, eighth grade students can look forward to the following:

  • completing their Educational Development Plans (EDPs) on Feb. 12, 2010,
  • visiting the Van Buren Technology Center on Feb. 16, 2010 from 9:30 – 10:50am,
  • receiving the results of their EXPLORE tests in mid-February, and
  • selecting their schedules for 9th grade the first week of March.

The year is already halfway over and your child is that much closer to high school. Please take the time to ask your student about the activities mentioned above. The more thought you and your child put into their future plans, the better. Graduation will come sooner than you think!

If you have any questions, please call Ms. Rumery at 269-628-2113 x 2111.

Sincerely,
