Gobles Seniors Win National Awards, Recognition for Excellence in 2009-2010

Senior Bonni Beebe, here playing at the Gobles High School 2010 Spring Concert, was one of two members of the Class of 2010 to win national acclaim for achievement.

One went east and one went west, but both Mitch Terry and Bonni Beebe returned home to Gobles High School having achieved the highest levels of success in their given fields of study this last school year: Mitch Terry in computer security, and Bonni Beebe in trumpet performance.

Mitch Terry was one of 5,600 high school students who participated in the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in May in Anaheim, California. As part of the conference Terry competed in his vocational preparation area, Computer Security, and took first place in the competition, which included students from across the nation. Terry had taken first place at the Michigan state competition also in the spring. He will attend Davenport University on a full academic scholarship in the fall of 2010.

Class of 2010 music phenom Bonni Beebe won a recording scholarship competition sponsored by the International Trumpet Guild that allowed her to attend the 2009 ITG Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Beebe received her award at an honors ceremony while at the conference. Over the last year Beebe has continued to distinguish herself as a musician, serving as principal trumpet for the Western Michigan University Spring Conference All-Star Band. She also performed with the Michigan Youth Arts Festival All-Star Band, the Kalamazoo College Philharmonia, and with the Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band during the 2010 performance season. She will attend the Lee Honor's College at Western Michigan University in the fall to pursue a degree in music performance.

Beebe was also one of only five students from high schools in Southwest Michigan who earned a commendation in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship competition, believed by many educators and college officials to be the most prestigious scholarship competition in the country. Beebe was the only student recognized in Southwest Michigan from a school of fewer than 1,300 students.
