Reality Store

All seniors, Family Living, and Consumer Education students took part in a simulation of real life personal finance Wednesday, April 23 in the high school library.

Each student had a net monthly salary to spend based on their chosen occupation. They then had to make their way through the month by paying their rent, car payment, utilities, child care, grocery bill, etc. Putting money in a savings account was required, and each student had to draw an ‘unexpected’ expense (as in real life - a broken washing machine, flat tire, veterinary bill, etc.). Their goal was to get through the month and be able to make their payments without spending more than they earned. A credit counselor was available to assist those that had trouble making ends meet and help them make their dollar stretch. It was an eye-opening dose of ‘reality’ for students.

A huge thank you goes to the many community volunteers that were on hand to assist students.
