At the April 15 ceremony to induct students into the 2012-2013 National Honor Society at Gobles High School, featured speaker Pam Westcott challenged sixty-one students to personalize the symbol of the NHS torch: to live their lives as beacons of integrity, character, inquiry and kindness. Student officers followed Westcott and spoke of the four pillars of the National Honor Society, then lit candles to symbolize the spreading of that flame.

Here Gobles NHS President Nicole Lauhon lights a candle to represent leadership. Lauhon, a senior, is daughter of David and Debbie Lauhon.

The Gobles United Methodist Women’s Group donated school and classroom supplies to Gobles Middle/High School at the beginning of the school year. They had two goals: to provide homeless students & students in financial need with school supplies such as binders, folders, pens, and pencils and to support Gobles teaching staff with supplies that teachers often pay for out of pocket, such as tissues and disinfecting wipes for the classroom, and poster board for projects.

The group works directly with the Intervention Specialist who identifies and supplies students with the donated items. Our school is extremely grateful that this group has decided to keep it’s charitable dollars local and support our students and teachers.

Jeff Rehlander

Hello. It is an honor for me to serve as Superintendent of the Gobles Public Schools. The Gobles Public Schools is a great place for the young people of the school community to gain the knowledge and skills required to help them to be successful in life. I know this to be true from the conversations that I have had with staff and community members, the programming in place, as well as the data that shows how our students perform on assessments. We have seen good success at our schools and that is directly connected to active and strong parental involvement, a dedicated and talented staff, and a supportive community. Yet the current reality can and will be improved. It is important that ALL our children have the knowledge and skills that will allow them to be competitive with any group of students around the state, country, and world. We must be committed to continuously advancing the core mission of teaching and learning.

Teachers at Gobles Public Schools are participating in the Teacher Wish List on line. TWL is a website where teachers can go to list their "wishes" for supplies and other materials needed at school. It provides a way for teachers and donors to connect. You can access this site at http://teacherwishlists.com/ or you can also find it at www.woodtv.com in their community section. Review the items that teachers are requesting. If you and your family or business can grant a wish by donating any of these much needed supplies, teachers would greatly appreciate it. Contact the teacher directly or by calling the school and make arrangements to drop off your donation. Together, as a community, we can help our teachers help our kids!

If you would like your student to receive services through Gobles’ English Language Learner instruction program, please notify Superintendent Wilson at 628-5618. Each child identified for participation in this program will receive information related to the standards and objectives of the program and information relating to the child’s level of English proficiency.
